In accordance with the Kazakhstan-2050 Strategy and the concept of the “transition to a green economy”, the government is currently reforming its approach to environmental protection, as well as modifying state, industry and regional environmental protection programmes.
The new Environmental Code implements “the polluter pays and corrects” principle and stimulates introduction of technologies and economic incentive measures to reduce mining environmental footprint.
The 1st competition of social and environmental projects in the mining industry of Kazakhstan. The competition is held as part of the MINEX Kazakhstan Mining and Exploration forum.
We invite mining and metallurgical enterprises, local government bodies, universities, technology and solution providers who have implemented projects in the field of environmental safety and social development in the mining industry of Kazakhstan.
Competition Objectives

To present projects implemented by mining enterprises in Kazakhstan to reduce the environmental footprint, support the socio-economic development of the regions and improve sustainable management of natural resources based on national and international standards and practices.

To benchmark the effectiveness of the use of technologies and management methods for solving socio-environmental problems in Kazakhstan’s mining sector.
➌
To provide a platform for the exchange of national and international practices and technologies to enhance sustainable development of mining enterprises.

To prepare recommendations for application of the new Environmental code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and further development of regulatory framework.
Terms and Conditions

CSR project of the year
Description: implementation of projects in the mining industry of Kazakhstan, developed in the 2019-2021 period, that have made a significant positive impact on the sustainable development of mining enterprises and society.
Assessment criteria: information disclosure and transparency; contribution to the development of the social policy of company and region; the effectiveness of the implementation of charitable and sponsorship programs on social development, etc.
Examples: construction or repair of infrastructure, charity events and program, creation of professional training and qualification programs, social inclusion projects, etc.

Environmental project of the year
Description: implementation in the 2019-2021 period of projects contributing to significant mitigation of the environmental impact of mining and metals production and ensuring environmental safety at the enterprise, region, and national levels.
Assessment criteria: introduction of highly efficient environmental technologies, introduction and use of energy-saving technologies, improvement of environmental performance of companies and administrations, improvement of waste management systems, conservation of water, forest and land resources during the implementation of mining projects and mine closure, development of conservation systems, etc.
The first stage (in absentia)
Dates: 20.02.2021 – 12.08.2021
To participate in the first stage of the competition, contestants must fill out an application form by 12 August 2021. It is mandatory to provide a brief description of the project (after selecting the appropriate nomination).
Accepted contestants will be required to send detailed project documentation in the form of presentation slides (no more than 10 slides for one project) and videos.
Upon completion of the acceptance of applications, the competent jury evaluates projects, selects three finalists in each category, and moves them to the second stage of the competition.
The second stage (on-premises)
Date: 14.09.2021
The finalists in each of the nominations will be invited to make 10-minute project presentations as part of an open session, which will be held on 14 September 2021 during the MINEX Kazakhstan forum in Nur-Sultan. Upon completion of the presentations and Q&As, the jury will select a winner (1,2 and 3 places) in each category.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 14 September 2021 held at the Radisson Astana hotel. The winners will be awarded the Competition diplomas and prizes.
Projects presented at the competition will be published in the post-forum report of the MINEX Kazakhstan forum. The competition results and the winners will be announced on the forum website and will be published by the forum media partners in online sources and printed media.

Registration deadline:
Speaker applications for the Forum, the Mining Goes Digital conference and at the MineDigital and MineEco competitions must be submitted before 12 August 2021.
